These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of studentreels.com (the "Site") and the profiles, question sets, video and photo submissions, scholarship sweepstakes, public college-discovery experience, and related services provided by Student Reels LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company ("Student Reels," "we," "us," or "our") (together, the "Services"). Your agreement is with
Student Reels LLC.
Please read carefully. Section 8 gives Student Reels ownership of the Contributions you submit, and Section 9 explains the controls you keep. Section 23 requires you and Student Reels to resolve most disputes through individual binding arbitration rather than in court, and waives class actions and jury trials. You may opt out of arbitration within 30 days, as explained in Section 23(h).
Agreement to these Terms
You accept these Terms by checking the acceptance box and creating an account, or by submitting a Contribution. If you do not agree, do not create an account or participate. If you only browse public pages, Sections 12, 13, 14, and 20 through 26 apply to your use of the Site to the extent permitted by law. The following also apply: our Privacy Policy at studentreels.com/privacy-policy, which explains how we handle personal information; the Official Rules for each scholarship sweepstakes; any activity offer describing a paid activity; and any separate written agreement for an internship, ambassador role, or other work. If they conflict, Official Rules control for their sweepstakes, an activity offer controls its deliverables and reward, a separate written agreement controls the work it covers, and these Terms control everything else.
What Student Reels does
We collect college students' experiences through question sets and video and photo submissions. We organize and analyze those contributions, publish approved content so future students can understand life at a school, and develop research. We earn revenue by licensing published content and aggregated or de-identified insights to schools, publishers, platforms, and other partners, and by displaying advertising and sponsored content on our public discovery pages. Student opinions reflect individual experiences. They are not official statements of any college and do not represent every student. We are not a college, admissions office, or financial-aid office, and we do not guarantee admission, college fit, academic results, employment, or financial outcomes. Naming a school does not imply its endorsement. We disclose sponsored content and paid relationships where required.
Eligibility and accounts
To create an account or participate, you must be at least 18 years old, have legal capacity to enter into these Terms where you live, be currently enrolled at a college or university in the United States, and be physically located in the United States. We verify enrollment by confirming access to your school-issued (.edu) email address. Official Rules or activity offers may add requirements. Anyone may view public pages without an account.
You may have only one account. Provide accurate information, keep it current, and do not share your sign-in codes or impersonate anyone. Confirming a school email does not by itself prove current enrollment, and we may ask for additional verification. Tell us promptly at hello@studentreels.com if your account is compromised. We will never ask for your password or sign-in code in an unsolicited message.
Question sets and honest participation
Participation is voluntary, and you may stop at any time before you submit. Your answers must reflect your own firsthand experience. Do not invent experiences, copy another student's answers, use more than one account, or submit automated or AI-generated answers as your own. Accessibility tools and ordinary spelling or grammar tools are permitted if the substance remains your own.
Candid feedback is welcome. Entries, rewards, and approval never depend on whether your opinion is positive or negative about a school or about Student Reels. You may skip any activity that asks something you prefer not to answer.
Scholarship sweepstakes
Official Rules control. We periodically offer scholarship sweepstakes. Each sweepstakes is governed by its Official Rules, which state the eligibility requirements, entry period, how entries are earned, the free alternative method of entry, prize details and approximate retail value, drawing date, odds, and winner-notification process. If these Terms conflict with Official Rules, the Official Rules control.
No purchase or payment necessary. You never pay to enter. Creating a profile earns an entry in an eligible sweepstakes, and completing question sets or submitting videos may earn additional entries as stated in the Official Rules. Each sweepstakes also offers a free alternative method of entry that does not require completing question sets or submitting videos and that gives the same number of entries and the same chance of winning.
Eligibility. Unless the Official Rules state otherwise, sweepstakes are open only to eligible contributors who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia and who have reached the age of majority in their state of residence. Student Reels' members, employees, paid interns, and contractors who administer a sweepstakes, and their immediate family and household members, are not eligible. Sweepstakes are void where prohibited.
Prizes. Prizes may be delivered as a Visa prepaid card, an Amazon gift card, or another method stated in the Official Rules, and are subject to the issuer's terms. Amazon, Visa, and other card issuers are not sponsors of our sweepstakes. A scholarship prize is a sweepstakes prize. It is not need-based or merit-based financial aid, and it is not awarded or administered by your college.
Taxes and financial aid. Winners are responsible for all taxes on prizes. Before we deliver a prize, a winner may need to complete an IRS Form W-9, including a Social Security number or taxpayer identification number, and we may report the prize to the IRS as required by law. A prize may need to be reported to your school and could affect your financial aid; ask your financial-aid office.
Fraud. We may void entries obtained through duplicate accounts, false information, automated means, or other violations of these Terms or the Official Rules.
Paid activities and rewards
From time to time we may offer an activity with a stated reward, such as a gift card. Before the activity begins, its offer will state the reward, required deliverables, acceptance criteria, and any deadline. Creating a profile, starting a question set, or expressing interest in videos does not guarantee an invitation, an internship, employment, or payment. We may withdraw an offer before you accept it, but we will not reduce the reward or materially change the requirements of an activity you have already accepted without your agreement. We will review a complete submission for a paid activity within 10 business days after we receive it and deliver the reward within 15 business days after approval. Business days exclude weekends and United States federal holidays. If a technical problem or necessary verification prevents review within that period, we will tell you why and give you a revised date. If we request a correction, the review period restarts when we receive the complete corrected submission. We may reject incomplete, duplicate, fraudulent, ineligible, or otherwise noncompliant submissions. We will explain a rejection and any available way to correct it. You may request reconsideration by emailing hello@studentreels.com within 30 days after notice. A negative opinion alone is never a reason for rejection. Payment for an approved activity does not depend on whether we publish or license the submission. No royalties, residuals, profit sharing, or license fees are owed unless an activity offer or signed agreement expressly provides for them.
Independent contractor relationship
When you complete question sets, submit Contributions, or perform a paid activity, you do so as an independent contractor and not as an employee, agent, partner, or joint venturer of Student Reels. You decide whether, when, where, and how to participate, and you are free to participate in similar programs offered by others. You are not eligible for employee wages or benefits, we do not withhold taxes from rewards or prizes, and you are responsible for any taxes owed on what you receive. You have no authority to bind Student Reels. Paid campus internships and other work for Student Reels are governed by a separate written agreement, which controls the relationship it covers. Legal classification depends on the actual relationship and applicable law.
Ownership of your Contributions
(a) Contributions. "Contributions" means the question responses, ratings, written explanations, recordings, videos, photos, audio, captions, and related materials you intentionally submit through the Services, and any edits, transcripts, or translations of them. Contributions do not include your private account and profile information, which is handled under our Privacy Policy, or anything you create outside the Services.
(b) Assignment. Upon submission, you assign to Student Reels all right, title, and interest throughout the world in and to each Contribution, including all copyrights and other intellectual property rights, and all registrations, renewals, and extensions of those rights. As a result, Student Reels may use, reproduce, edit, adapt, translate, combine, create derivative works from, publish, display, perform, distribute, license, sublicense, and sell Contributions in any media now known or later developed, and may license the same Contribution to multiple partners and keep the resulting revenue, subject only to Section 9.
(c) Back-up license. If any right in a Contribution cannot be assigned, you grant Student Reels an exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid, transferable, and sublicensable license to exercise that right in the same ways, and you agree not to assert it against Student Reels or its licensees.
(d) Name, likeness, and voice. You grant Student Reels and its licensees and sublicensees the perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free right to use your name as permitted by your attribution settings, and your image, likeness, voice, and biographical information (school, major, and class year) as captured in or associated with your Contributions, to publish, license, and promote your
Contributions and the Services. This does not permit using your identity to endorse a product or service unrelated to your Contribution.
(e) What you keep. We grant you a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free license to keep copies of your Contributions and to share them on your personal social media accounts for noncommercial purposes. You may not license or sell your Contributions to anyone else. You remain free to talk and write about your own experiences in your own words. We do not claim ownership of facts, ideas, your underlying experiences, your identity, your school's trademarks, or rights belonging to someone else.
(f) Editing and moral rights. We may edit Contributions for length, clarity, captions, and format, and combine them with other content. We will not knowingly edit a Contribution to reverse its meaning, fabricate statements, or present you as endorsing something you did not endorse. To the extent permitted by law, you waive, and agree not to assert, any moral rights, rights of attribution, or rights of integrity in your Contributions. You have no right to approve edits, placement, licensees, or final versions, and we have no obligation to publish a Contribution.
(g) Drafts and rejected submissions. Drafts you never submit are not Contributions. We may process a submitted Contribution to review, verify, and secure it. If we reject a Contribution, we will not publish or license it, and on your written request we will assign it back to you.
(h) Release. To the extent permitted by law, you release Student Reels and its licensees from claims for invasion of privacy, violation of the right of publicity, or defamation arising from use of a Contribution as you submitted it or as edited in compliance with Section 8(f). This release does not apply to edits that violate Section 8(f) or to our own misconduct.
(i) No other compensation. Except for prizes you win under Official Rules and rewards stated in an activity offer, you are not entitled to payment, royalties, or residuals for Contributions or for the uses permitted by this Section.
(j) Signature. Your acceptance of these Terms and your confirmation at the time of each submission are your electronic signature on a written instrument of transfer, including for purposes of 17 U.S.C. Section 204(a). You agree to sign any additional documents reasonably needed to confirm these rights.
(k) Reviews of Student Reels. Nothing in these Terms restricts your right to publish an honest review of Student Reels, penalizes you for doing so, or transfers your intellectual property in such a review where the Consumer Review Fairness Act or other law prohibits it. For such reviews submitted to us, you grant only a nonexclusive license to use them. Rights that cannot be waived, including statutory copyright termination rights, are preserved.
Attribution, distribution, and takedowns
Attribution. By default, published Contributions are attributed by school, major, and class year. You may choose to add your first name, or your first name and last initial, in your attribution settings, and you may change that choice at any time for future publications. Your face, voice, surroundings, or story may identify you even without your name. We never publish your email address, phone number, GPA, gender, first-generation status, tax information, or payment details as attribution.
Limiting distribution. You may limit any Contribution to Student Reels properties only. We will then exclude it from new licenses to partners.
Takedowns. You may request a takedown of any Contribution through your account or by emailing privacy@studentreels.com. Within 10 business days, we will remove it from the Site, remove it from social media posts we control where reasonably possible, stop including it in new licenses, and ask current licensees to remove it. A licensee may continue to use a Contribution it already received until its current license term ends, and we will not renew that license for your Contribution. Aggregated or de-identified insights that no longer identify you are not withdrawn.
Account closure. Closing your account does not by itself withdraw published Contributions. If you want them removed, request a takedown or a deletion under our Privacy Policy. Entries already earned remain valid for the current drawing unless you ask us to remove them. These controls are in addition to, and do not limit, any privacy rights you have under applicable law.
Artificial intelligence
We use artificial intelligence and automated tools to transcribe, caption, translate, summarize, classify, analyze, and edit Contributions, to flag quality and fraud concerns, and to create summaries, research insights, compilations, and new media based on Contributions, including narration that does not imitate you. AI outputs can contain mistakes; contact us about an inaccurate transcript, caption, attribution, or decision, and a person will review it. We will not use your Contributions to create a synthetic replica of your face or voice, to identify you biometrically, or to train generative AI models that produce content imitating you, without a separate written agreement. We will not present AI-generated statements as your actual words or portray invented experiences as your firsthand testimony.
Content standards and your responsibilities
You represent that each Contribution reflects your actual experience, that you have the rights needed to grant the rights in Section 8, and that our permitted uses will not violate anyone's intellectual property, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, or contract rights. You are not warranting that your opinions apply to every student. Do not include copyrighted music, video clips, photos, logos, or other third-party material unless you have commercial rights to it; music permitted on a social platform may not be licensed for our uses. Get a written release from anyone you prominently feature in a recording, or remove or obscure them. Do not feature anyone under 18. Follow recording laws, property rules, and school policies, and do not record private conversations, private living spaces, or restricted areas without permission. Do not submit confidential school records, another person's grades or private health or financial information, threats, harassment, hate speech, sexually explicit or exploitative content, or content promoting illegal activity. Share opinions and experiences, but do not make factual accusations of crimes or misconduct against identifiable individuals, such as named students, faculty, or staff. Tell us promptly if you learn that a Contribution has a rights problem.
Acceptable use
You may view and share links to public content for lawful personal purposes. You may not: copy, redistribute, or commercially exploit content from the Services except as these Terms allow; scrape, crawl, or harvest content or information about participants; use content from the Services to train AI models without our written permission; bypass access controls or security measures; introduce malware; interfere with the Services; create accounts by automated means; manipulate entries or rewards; impersonate anyone; or use the Services for any unlawful purpose. Ordinary search-engine indexing of public pages is permitted in accordance with our published access controls. These restrictions do not limit fair use or other rights that cannot lawfully be restricted.
Our intellectual property
Student Reels and its licensors own the Services, including the Site's software, design, the Student Reels name and logos, our questions, research reports, compilations, and the selection and arrangement of content and datasets, together with the rights we acquire in Contributions. School names and marks belong to their owners. Except for the limited rights in these Terms, we do not grant you any rights in our intellectual property. If you send us feedback or ideas about the Services, we may use them without obligation to you.
Advertising and third-party services
Public discovery pages may include advertising and sponsored content, including before, during, or beside published videos. We do not display advertising in the contributor dashboard. Content may appear beside commercial material, and a license or advertisement does not mean you endorse the licensee or advertiser. Student Reels keeps all advertising and licensing revenue. The Services may link to or use third-party sites and services, including reward, payment, tax-form, storage, and analytics providers, whose own terms govern their services. We are not responsible for third-party sites, offers, or content, but this does not relieve us of duties the law imposes on us.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information, and your rights and choices. Ownership of Contributions does not override the Privacy Policy or applicable privacy law. We do not disclose information identifying you together with the specific videos you watch, except with your separate written consent or as otherwise permitted by law.
Campus interns and ambassadors
Paid campus interns and ambassadors are engaged under a separate written agreement. When promoting Student Reels, they must clearly disclose their relationship with Student Reels as required by the Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides, use only materials and tools we approve, never promise selection, prizes, or payment, never collect students' personal information outside our approved tools, and follow applicable anti-spam laws.
Electronic signatures and communications
You agree that we may provide these Terms, Official Rules, notices, and other communications electronically, and that your electronic acceptance, including checking a box, typing your name, or clicking a button, has the same effect as a handwritten signature. You may download or print the agreements we present to you. We send notices to the email address associated with your account or through the Services. Marketing emails are optional and include an unsubscribe link. We do not currently send text messages; if we begin, we will ask for your separate consent.
Suspension and account closure
We may restrict access, remove content, void entries, or suspend or close an account for violations of these Terms or Official Rules, rights concerns, fraud, security risks, or legal requirements. Where practicable, we will explain the action and offer a way to respond; we may act immediately to address an urgent risk. You may close your account at any time through your account settings or by emailing hello@studentreels.com. We may modify or discontinue any part of the Services. Suspension, closure, or discontinuation does not cancel rewards you have already earned, except those obtained through fraud. Sections 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, and 20 through 26, and any other provision that by its nature should survive, survive termination.
Copyright complaints
We respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Send a notice to our designated agent that includes: identification of the copyrighted work; the specific material and its URL; your name, address, telephone number, and email address; a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature. Designated Copyright Agent: Student Reels LLC, Attn: Copyright Agent, 304 Catherine Lane, Landenberg, PA 19350; hello@studentreels.com. We may remove disputed material and will terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
Disclaimers
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," AND WE DISCLAIM ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-
INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION, PERFECT SECURITY, OR THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR REPRESENTATIVENESS OF ANY STUDENT CONTRIBUTION, AI OUTPUT, OR RESEARCH RESULT. STUDENT CONTRIBUTIONS ARE PERSONAL OPINIONS, AND YOU SHOULD NOT RELY ON THEM AS THE SOLE BASIS FOR
ANY EDUCATIONAL OR FINANCIAL DECISION. THESE DISCLAIMERS DO NOT LIMIT OUR EXPRESS OBLIGATIONS TO DELIVER EARNED REWARDS AND PRIZES.
Limitation of liability
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STUDENT REELS AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF $100 OR THE TOTAL VALUE OF REWARDS AND PRIZES PAID OR PAYABLE TO YOU DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE
CLAIM.
These limits do not apply to rewards and prizes you have earned, to liability for our fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct, or to liability that applicable law does not allow us to limit.
Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you will reimburse Student Reels for reasonable losses and legal costs arising from a third-party claim caused by your knowing infringement of another person's rights, a fraudulent submission, or your willful unlawful conduct. This does not cover claims caused by our own edits or uses that violate these Terms, our negligence, or our misconduct, and it never applies merely because you expressed an unfavorable opinion. We will notify you promptly of a claim, allow you to participate in the defense at your expense, and not agree to a settlement that imposes an admission or non-monetary obligation on you without your consent.
Dispute resolution: binding arbitration and class action waiver
(a) Informal resolution first. Before starting an arbitration or small-claims case, the party with a dispute must send a written Notice of Dispute describing the claim and the relief requested. Send notices to Student Reels by email to hello@studentreels.com and by mail to the address in Section 27; we will send notices to the email address on your account. Both parties will try in good faith to resolve the dispute within 60 days after the notice is received. Statutes of limitation and filing deadlines are paused during that period.
(b) Agreement to arbitrate. Except as provided in Section 23(c), you and Student Reels agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms, the Services, your Contributions, any sweepstakes or reward, or our handling of your personal information, whether based in contract, tort, statute, or any other legal theory, and whether it arose before or after you accepted these Terms, will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this Section 23.
(c) Exceptions. Either party may (1) bring an individual claim in small-claims court if it qualifies and remains there, and (2) seek an injunction in court to stop actual or threatened infringement or misuse of intellectual property. Either party may also bring an issue to the attention of a government agency.
(d) Rules and procedure. The American Arbitration Association ("AAA") will administer the arbitration under its Consumer Arbitration Rules and, where they apply, its Mass Arbitration Supplementary Rules, as modified by this Section. If the AAA is unavailable, the parties will agree on another administrator or a court will appoint one. A single arbitrator will decide the dispute. Claims of $25,000 or less will be decided on written submissions unless the arbitrator requests a hearing. Any hearing will take place by video conference or, at your choice, in the county where you live. The arbitrator may award the same individual relief a court could award, and the award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.
(e) Fees. Your filing fees will not exceed the amount the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules require of a consumer, and Student Reels will pay all other administrative and arbitrator fees, unless the arbitrator finds that your claim was frivolous or brought for an improper purpose. Each party pays its own attorneys' fees unless applicable law or the arbitrator's award provides otherwise.
(f) Who decides. The arbitrator decides all questions about the interpretation, scope, applicability, and enforceability of this agreement to arbitrate, except that a court decides disputes about Sections 23(g) and 23(i), and about whether Section 23(h) has been satisfied.
(g) Class action and jury trial waiver. YOU AND STUDENT REELS AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, COLLECTIVE, CONSOLIDATED,
OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. THE ARBITRATOR MAY NOT CONSOLIDATE CLAIMS OF MORE THAN ONE PERSON, EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SECTION 23(i), AND MAY AWARD RELIEF ONLY IN FAVOR OF THE INDIVIDUAL PARTY SEEKING IT AND ONLY TO THE EXTENT NEEDED TO RESOLVE THAT PARTY'S CLAIM. YOU AND STUDENT REELS EACH WAIVE THE
RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL.
(h) Right to opt out. You may opt out of this Section 23 within 30 days after you first accept these Terms by emailing hello@studentreels.com with the subject "Arbitration Opt-Out" and including your name and the email address on your account. Opting out does not affect any other part of these Terms or any arbitration agreement you previously accepted.
(i) Mass filings. If 25 or more similar demands for arbitration are filed against or on behalf of the same party by the same or coordinated counsel, they will be administered in batches of up to 100 demands under the AAA Mass Arbitration Supplementary Rules, with one arbitrator per batch where those rules allow. Statutes of limitation are paused for demands awaiting a batch.
(j) Severability. If a court finds that Section 23(g) is unenforceable as to a particular claim or request for relief, such as a request for public injunctive relief, then that claim or request will be decided in court under Section 24, after any arbitrable claims are decided in arbitration, and the remainder of this Section 23 will remain in effect.
(k) Changes. If we make a material change to this Section 23, we will give you at least 30 days' notice. The change will not apply to a dispute of which either party had already given notice. You may reject the change by notifying us within 30 days after it takes effect, in which case the prior version of this Section 23 continues to apply to you.
Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except that the Federal Arbitration Act governs Section 23. This choice does not deprive you of protections that cannot be waived under the law of the state where you live. Any dispute not subject to arbitration will be heard exclusively in the Court of Common Pleas of Chester County, Pennsylvania, or the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and you and Student Reels consent to those courts' personal jurisdiction, except that either party may use a small-claims court with jurisdiction.
Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms with a new effective date and, for material changes, notify you by email or through the Services at least 30 days before the change takes effect, except where a change is required sooner by law. Where required, we will ask for your affirmative acceptance. Changes apply going forward. They do not change rewards for activities you already accepted, and they do not expand the permissions in Sections 8 and 9 for Contributions submitted before the change. If you do not agree to a change, stop using the Services and close your account.
General
These Terms, together with the documents described in Section 1, are the entire agreement between you and Student Reels about their subject matter. If a provision is found unenforceable, it will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary and the rest will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account without our consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, provided the successor assumes our obligations. We are not liable for delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control. Headings are for convenience only, and "including" means "including without limitation."
