Student Reels LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company ("Student Reels," "we," "us," or "our"), operates studentreels.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and retain personal information through the Site, student profiles, question sets, video and photo submissions, scholarship sweepstakes, our public college-discovery experience, and related communications (together, the "Services"). It also explains your choices and rights. This Privacy
Policy is our notice at collection. It applies together with our Terms of Service at studentreels.com/terms-of-service.
At a glance
- Who can contribute. Student participation is limited to people who are at least 18 years old, enrolled at a college or university in the United States, located in the United States, and verified through a school (.edu) email address. Anyone may view our public pages.
- How we earn revenue. We turn student experiences into college-discovery content and research. We publish approved Contributions, license published content and aggregated or de-identified insights to schools, publishers, and other partners, and may show advertising around published videos.
- What stays private. Your email address, phone number, GPA, gender, first-generation status, tax information, and payment details are never part of public attribution, and we do not sell them.
- Your controls. You choose how you are named, can limit where your Contributions are distributed, can request takedowns, and can exercise the privacy rights described in Section 15.
- Tracking choices. Analytics and advertising technologies that are not essential stay off until you turn them on. We honor Global Privacy Control signals.
Who this policy covers and eligibility
Contributors. Accounts, question sets, submissions, scholarship sweepstakes, and paid activities are limited to people who are at least 18 years old, have legal capacity to agree to our Terms, are currently enrolled at a college or university in the United States, and are physically located in the
United States. We verify enrollment by confirming access to a school-issued (.edu) email address. We ask you to confirm that you are 18 or older; we do not ask for your date of birth.
Visitors. Anyone may view our public pages, including prospective students and visitors outside the
United States. Visitors who do not create an account are covered by this policy for the information collected automatically when they use the Site (Section 3).
Minors. The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you are under 18, do not create an account or submit information to us. If we learn that a person under 18 has registered or submitted personal information, we will close the account and delete that information, subject to limited legal or security retention requirements. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 18, or use it for targeted advertising. Contact privacy@studentreels.com if you believe we have information from a minor.
Not your school. We operate independently of colleges unless a specific relationship is disclosed. Information you give us is self-reported. It is not an education record received from your school, and confirming your school email does not mean your college endorses us.
Others. Our paid campus interns and other workers receive a separate notice about workforce information. This policy covers information they collect on our behalf from students.
Information you provide
Account and contact information. First and last name, school (.edu) email address, an optional personal email address, sign-in credentials or one-time codes, an optional mobile phone number, confirmation that you are 18 or older, acceptance of our Terms and other agreements, and your communication preferences.
Student profile. College, class year or grade level, major, expected graduation, transfer status, housing and dining experience, self-reported GPA, gender (optional, with a "prefer not to say" choice), first-generation college student status (optional), scholarship or financial-aid status where a question asks for it, and other campus-life details. We identify required and optional fields before you submit them.
Question responses and Contributions. Answers, ratings, written explanations, opinions, and experiences you share in question sets, and the videos, photos, audio, captions, and related materials you submit (together, "Contributions"). Recordings may include your face, voice, surroundings, and anything else you choose to show or say. Publication preferences and permissions. Your attribution and distribution choices, takedown requests, electronic signatures, and the records we keep to show what you permitted and when.
Scholarship sweepstakes and rewards. Entries earned, entry method, drawing records, and, if you are selected, the information needed to verify eligibility and deliver a prize, such as your legal name, mailing address, and phone number.
Tax information. When a prize or payment must be reported to the IRS, or tax documentation is otherwise required, we collect IRS Form W-9 information, including your legal name, address, and Social Security number or other taxpayer identification number, through a secure collection process. Do not send a Social Security number, bank details, or identity documents in a question response, upload, or ordinary email.
Reward and payment information. The email address or other details needed to deliver a Visa prepaid card, Amazon gift card, or other reward, and confirmation of delivery and redemption status. We do not collect your bank account or payment card numbers.
Referrals. If you refer a friend, we collect the name and email address you provide and use them only to send that person an invitation about Student Reels. Refer only people you know who would want to hear from us.
Communications. Support requests, feedback, and messages you send to us or to our campus interns.
Information collected automatically
When anyone uses the Site, we and the providers we enable may collect IP address; approximate location derived from IP address (such as city and state); browser, device, and operating-system information; cookie, pixel, and device identifiers; pages and videos viewed; referring pages; campaign information; clicks, scrolls, and other interactions; timestamps; errors; and security logs. Email providers may record delivery, opens, and link clicks. We do not request precise device location. With your permission, our product analytics provider may record how pages are used, including session replays. Session replay masks text you type and is disabled on profile, question, upload, payment, tax, and privacy-request screens. Section 9 explains these technologies and your choices.
Information from other sources
We receive email-verification results, reward-delivery and redemption confirmations, tax-form processing results, campaign and conversion reports from advertising and analytics partners, and information from our campus interns about students who ask to be contacted or who sign up through a referral. If you contact us through a social media platform, we receive the information that platform makes available for that interaction. We do not ask for your college account password or access to your school records. We may combine information from these sources with information you provide.
How we use information
- Operate the Services: create and secure accounts, verify age and enrollment, route question sets to you, review and approve submissions, provide support, and keep records of your permissions.
- Create college-discovery content: transcribe, caption, edit, organize, and tag Contributions by topic; publish approved Contributions with the attribution you choose; and help future students understand what life is like at a school.
- Develop research and insights: analyze responses to identify themes and produce statistics, reports, and aggregated or de-identified insights about schools and student experiences.
- License and monetize: license published Contributions and aggregated or de-identified insights to schools, publishers, platforms, and other partners, and show or sell advertising on public discovery pages.
- Run sweepstakes and rewards: award entries, conduct drawings, verify winners, deliver prizes and rewards, and meet tax-reporting obligations.
- Grow and improve: recruit more students to participate, measure campaigns, analyze how the Site is used, fix problems, and build better services for current and future students.
- Communicate: send account, verification, entry, prize, security, and privacy messages, and, subject to your choices, news and invitations about new activities.
- Protect and comply: prevent fraud, duplicate accounts, and abuse; protect rights and safety; enforce our Terms; respond to legal process; and manage financings, acquisitions, or other business transactions. We will not use personal information for a purpose that is materially different from those described here without notice and, where required, your consent.
Artificial intelligence and automated processing
We use artificial intelligence and automated tools to transcribe and caption recordings; translate, summarize, and classify responses by topic; identify themes and sentiment; flag quality, duplicate, or fraud concerns; and assist with editing and content production. These processes create transcripts, topic labels, summaries, and other inferences about submitted content. We use business or API versions of AI services under terms that prohibit the provider from using our submitted content to train its general-purpose models. We may use Contributions, transcripts, and labels to improve our own internal tools for organizing and analyzing content. We do not use recordings to create faceprints or voiceprints, to identify people biometrically, or to create a synthetic replica of your face or voice. We do not use AI to generate statements and present them as your words. Automated review assists people; it does not make final decisions on its own about rejecting a submission, withholding a prize, or closing an account. To ask for human reconsideration of a decision, contact privacy@studentreels.com. We do not use these tools to make decisions about admission, lending, housing, employment, insurance, or similar matters that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
Publication, attribution, and licensing
What may be public. Approved Contributions may appear on the Site, our social media channels, partner and licensee sites, research reports, and advertising for the Services. By default, public attribution shows your school, major, and class year. Your name appears only if you choose it in your attribution settings (first name, or first name and last initial). Your face, voice, surroundings, or story may identify you even without your name.
What is never public. Your email addresses, phone number, GPA, gender, first-generation status, scholarship or financial-aid status, tax information, payment details, and the rest of your private profile are never part of public attribution.
Licensing. Schools, publishers, platforms, and other partners, including your own college, may license (1) published Contributions with their approved attribution and (2) aggregated or de-identified insights. We do not give licensees unpublished responses, contact information, or private profile fields that identify you. We do not release insights describing a group of fewer than 10 respondents. Licensing identifiable Contributions for compensation may be a "sale" under some state privacy laws; Sections 15 and 16 explain how to opt out.
Advertising. We may display advertising and sponsored content on public discovery pages, including before, during, or beside published videos. We do not display advertising in the contributor dashboard where you create and manage Contributions.
Your controls. In your account or by emailing privacy@studentreels.com, you can (1) change your attribution, (2) limit a Contribution to Student Reels properties only, so we do not include it in new licenses, and (3) request that we take a Contribution down. When you request a takedown, we remove the Contribution from the Site within 10 business days, remove it from social media posts we control where reasonably possible, stop including it in new licenses, and ask current licensees to remove it. A licensee may continue to use a Contribution it already received until its current license term ends; we will not renew that license for your Contribution. Aggregated or de-identified insights that no longer identify you are not withdrawn. Our Terms of Service describe these controls in more detail.
Copies held by others. Public content may be copied, indexed, or cached by others. We cannot guarantee removal of every independently held copy, but this does not excuse any action that applicable law requires us to take.
How we disclose information
We disclose only information relevant to each recipient's role:
- Service providers that process information for us under contracts restricting their use of it. These include hosting, database, and site-development providers (such as Supabase and Lovable); email providers (such as Brevo); analytics providers (such as Google Analytics and PostHog); AI and transcription providers (such as OpenAI and Anthropic); reward-delivery and tax-form providers; and security, support, and professional-services providers.
- Licensees, who receive published Contributions with approved attribution and aggregated or de-identified insights, as described in Section 7.
- Advertising and analytics partners (such as Google, Meta, TikTok, Snap, X, and Reddit), which receive the cookie and device information described in Section 9, subject to your choices. Some of these partners use information for their own purposes under their own privacy policies.
- The public, who can see published Contributions and their approved attribution.
- Campus interns and ambassadors, who may learn whether a student they referred has signed up. They do not receive your responses or private profile.
- Legal and safety recipients: courts, regulators, law enforcement, or others when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the Services, and our professional advisers.
- Business transferees: parties to an actual or proposed financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections. A successor must honor this policy for information it receives.
- Others with your consent or at your direction. We do not sell or rent your contact information, GPA, gender, first-generation status, scholarship or financial-aid status, tax information, or payment details. If we ever offer to connect students with schools or other partners for recruiting or marketing, we will share your contact information only after you opt in to a specific offer naming the recipient.
Cookies, analytics, and advertising
We use essential cookies and similar technologies for sign-in, security, preferences, and core functions. Subject to your choices, analytics technologies (such as Google Analytics and PostHog) help us understand use of the Site, and advertising pixels and tags (such as those from Meta, TikTok, Snap, Google, X, and Reddit) help us measure campaigns, build permitted audiences, and show advertising on other services. These partners may combine information with data from other sites and their own platforms. This activity may be a "sale," "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising, or "targeted advertising" under state privacy laws. Advertising partners may receive cookie or device identifiers, IP-derived approximate location, visits to public pages, referral information, and non-sensitive campaign or conversion events (such as "created an account"). We do not send question responses, uploaded media, GPA, gender, first-generation status, tax or payment details, or other sensitive information to advertising pixels or audience tools, and we do not include these values in page addresses or event data. We configure advertising technologies so they do not receive the titles or specific addresses of videos you watch. Matching email addresses or phone numbers with advertising platforms, including in hashed form, requires your separate permission.
Your choices. Analytics and advertising technologies that are not essential stay off until you turn them on through our cookie controls. You can change your choice at any time through the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the Site footer, or by emailing privacy@studentreels.com with "Privacy opt-out" in the subject. Browser settings can block or delete cookies, although some features may then work differently. Choices generally apply to the browser and device you use, so repeat them on each browser and device. Unsubscribing from email does not change cookie preferences.
Opt-out preference signals. We treat Global Privacy Control and other legally recognized opt-out preference signals as a request to opt out of sale, sharing, and targeted advertising for that browser or device and, when we can associate the signal with your account, for your account. We do not treat a general "Do Not Track" signal as an opt-out unless required by law.
Videos. We do not disclose to third parties information that identifies you together with the specific videos you request or watch, except with your separate written consent or as otherwise permitted by the Video Privacy Protection Act.
Sensitive information
Social Security and taxpayer identification numbers. We collect these only to comply with tax-reporting obligations and prevent fraud. We store them encrypted, limit access to personnel who need them, and do not use them for any other purpose.
Gender. Providing your gender is optional and you may choose "prefer not to say." Some state laws treat transgender or nonbinary status as sensitive information. By choosing to provide your gender, you consent to our using it to understand who participates and to produce aggregated or de-identified insights. We never publish it with your Contributions, sell it, or use it for advertising. You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing the field in your profile or contacting us.
GPA and first-generation status. We protect these the same way. We use them only to understand participation and to produce aggregated or de-identified insights, and we never publish them with your Contributions, sell them in identifiable form, or use them for advertising.
Health and other sensitive topics. Questions about health, support, accessibility, safety, and belonging ask about campus services and community, not about your diagnoses, treatment, disability documentation, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, immigration status, or similar personal traits. Do not include those details in your answers or uploads. We do not intend to collect consumer health data, including as defined by Washington's My Health My Data Act. If you include sensitive information by mistake, contact privacy@studentreels.com so we can remove or redact it.
Recordings. Recordings may show your face and voice, but we do not use them to identify you biometrically or to create faceprints or voiceprints. We do not sell sensitive personal information or use it for targeted advertising or to infer characteristics about you. Before introducing any activity that intentionally collects other sensitive information, we will provide the notices and obtain the consents that applicable law requires.
Scholarship sweepstakes, rewards, and financial incentives
How sweepstakes work. We periodically offer scholarship sweepstakes. Creating a profile enters you in an eligible sweepstakes at no cost, and you may earn additional entries by completing question sets or submitting videos. Each sweepstakes has Official Rules that state the sponsor, eligibility, entry period, entry methods, a free alternative method of entry, prize details, drawing date, odds, and how winners are notified. The Official Rules govern if they conflict with this policy.
Winners. If you are selected, we use your information to verify eligibility, deliver the prize, and meet tax-reporting obligations, which may include collecting a Form W-9 and issuing an IRS information return. Where the Official Rules and applicable law permit, we may publish a winner's first name, last initial, and school, and we provide winner information to people who request it as the Official Rules describe.
Paid activities. Some activities may offer a stated reward, such as a gift card. The activity offer will describe the deliverables, reward, and requirements before you begin.
Notice of financial incentive Sweepstakes entries and activity rewards may be "financial incentives" under the California Consumer Privacy Act and similar laws because they are offered in connection with the collection of personal information.
- Material terms: you earn entries or rewards for creating a profile, completing question sets, or submitting videos, as described in the applicable Official Rules or activity offer.
- Information involved: the categories described in Section 2, including identifiers, profile and education information, question responses, and Contributions.
- How to opt in: by choosing to participate. Participation is voluntary.
- How to withdraw: stop participating, or delete your account or a Contribution as described in Sections 7 and 15. Entries you already earned remain valid for the current drawing unless you ask us to remove them, and earned rewards are not forfeited because you exercise a privacy right.
- Value of your information: we estimate the value of the information collected in an incentive program as approximately equal to the expected cost of the entries, prizes, and rewards we provide for that information, together with the costs of operating the program. We based this good-faith estimate on our expenses related to the program.
Communications
We send operational messages about verification, your account, entries, prizes, payments, security, and privacy requests. With your permission, we also send news and invitations to new activities. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in each message or by emailing privacy@studentreels.com; operational messages may continue. We use your phone number for account security, winner verification, and support. We do not currently send text messages. If we begin a text-message program, we will ask for your separate consent first.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, as shown below, unless a longer period is required by law or needed to resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or comply with a legal hold.
| Information | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Account and profile information | While your account is active, plus 24 months after it closes or after your last activity |
| Question responses and unpublished Contributions | While your account is active, plus 24 months, unless you ask us to delete them sooner |
| Rejected submissions | Up to 12 months after rejection, for review requests, fraud prevention, and legal needs |
| Published or licensed Contributions | While published or licensed, including through the end of any license term |
| Permission, signature, and rights records | While the related Contribution is used, plus 7 years |
| Tax information (Form W-9, SSN/TIN) and information returns | 7 years after the end of the related tax year |
| Sweepstakes entry and winner records | 3 years after the drawing (7 years for winner tax records) |
| Privacy-request records | At least 24 months |
| Analytics and advertising data | Up to 26 months, or shorter where the provider setting allows |
| Security logs | Up to 12 months, longer when investigating an incident |
| Aggregated or de-identified data | Indefinitely |
Backups may retain restricted copies until they are overwritten in the normal cycle. We do not restore deleted information from backups for commercial use.
De-identified and aggregated information
We may create, use, license, and sell aggregated statistics and information that meets applicable legal standards for de-identification. We maintain de-identified information in de-identified form, do not attempt to re-identify it except as the law permits to test our methods, and contractually prohibit recipients from re-identifying it. Small groups, combinations of school and major, and distinctive quotes can identify a person, so we assess those risks, including our minimum group size, before treating information as de-identified.
Your privacy rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: confirm whether we process your personal information; access it and receive a portable copy; correct inaccuracies; delete it; opt out of its sale, sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising, targeted advertising, or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects; limit or withdraw consent to the use of sensitive information; obtain a list of the categories of third parties, or the specific third parties, to which we disclosed it; and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have some or all of these rights. We extend the core rights of access, correction, and deletion to all contributors, wherever they live in the United States.
How to submit a request. Use your account settings, the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the Site footer, or email privacy@studentreels.com. Tell us what you are requesting and the email address associated with your account. Do not include passwords, financial account numbers, or identity documents in your first message. You do not need an account to opt out.
Opting out of sale. If you opt out of sale, we will stop including your identifiable Contributions in new licenses (the same as limiting them to Student Reels properties), and we will turn off advertising cookies and pixels for your browser or account.
Deletion and Contributions. If you ask us to delete your personal information, we will delete or de-identify your account, profile, and unpublished responses, and take down your published Contributions as described in Section 7, except where the law allows us to keep information, such as tax records and records of the permissions you gave us. Deletion can end your participation in features that depend on the deleted information.
Verification. For access, correction, and deletion requests, we verify your identity by matching information we already have, such as by confirming access to your account email. Opt-out requests do not require verification. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask the agent for proof of authority and ask you to confirm your identity directly.
Timing. We respond to verified requests within 45 days, or sooner where required. If we need a permitted extension, we will tell you why within the first 45 days. We process opt-outs as soon as feasible and within 15 business days.
Appeals. If we deny your request, we will explain why. To appeal, email privacy@studentreels.com with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line and describe the decision you disagree with. We will respond within the period the law requires. If you are not satisfied, you may contact your state attorney general. We will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or provide a different quality of service because you exercised a privacy right, except as permitted by law in connection with a financial incentive described in Section 11.

California residents may also request information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes under California Civil Code Section 1798.83; we do not make such disclosures.

Other states. Residents of Minnesota, Oregon, and other states that provide the right may request a list of the specific third parties to which we disclosed personal information by emailing privacy@studentreels.com.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the information and the risks, including encryption in transit, encryption of tax identifiers at rest, access controls, and oversight of service providers. No system is completely secure. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account. We will notify you and regulators of security incidents as required by law.
Third-party sites and location of processing
The Services may link to or embed content from third-party sites and platforms. Interacting with them may disclose information to their operators under their own policies. We do not control those sites. Our Services are operated from the United States, and participation is limited to people in the United
States. Visitors from other countries may view public pages, but information collected from them is processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in their home country. Our providers may also process information in other countries where they operate, subject to appropriate safeguards.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices or legal requirements change and will revise the effective date above. For material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Services before the change takes effect. We will obtain your consent where required before using previously collected information in a materially different way. An update to this policy does not expand the permissions you gave for your Contributions.
